Kevin DesmondFounderWelcome on board VeniceAgenda2028, the NGO working with the Venetians so that by the year 2028 their entire fleet of motorboats (water-buses, taxis, work-boats and private boats) will be zero-emission, low wash electric boats. VeniceAgenda2028 has brought together some 40 builders of boats and marine electric propulsion systems to meet the needs of tourist and private boat operators. I have been writing about and promoting electric boats since 1979. I was Chairman of the Electric Boat Association and founder-editor of its newsletter during the late 1980s. I also co-founded the French Electric Boat Association in 1994. My recent 270-page book “Electric Boats and Ships: a History” , published by McFarland & Co. Inc not only traces the history of electric boats back to 1835 but by reporting on recent developments is guiding its future. I co-founded VeniceAgenda2028 after a trip to Venice in October 2018.

That wake and those waves…so unnecessary!
They are destroying, eroding the very foundations of Venice’s beautiful palazzi and bridges. Today’s and tomorrow’s electric boats – small or large, like this Norwegian cruise ship, create zero wash. The transition is already happening in Amsterdam, in Oslo and on Lake Como – and it must be done for “La Serenissima” before it’s too late!
